❓ What ages can sign up for tutoring?
Any school-aged child is eligible for tutoring sessions.
We can also work with adults working towards their GED.
In some circumstances, some of our tutors are able to help with college-level coursework, and a custom tutoring package would be created for these higher level courses.
❓ What do I need to be successful with online tutoring?
Students need the following:
* High-speed internet
* A device, ideally a laptop or tablet with a larger screen, connected to the internet.
* Zoom access and account.
* A quiet space without background noise.
* For music lessons, you'll need your instrument, sheet music or book, and a music stand.
* Come to each session with a clear idea of what they need help on. Ideally the parent will talk to the tutor for a couple of minutes before each session to confirm the goal for the day.
* While a parent or guardian does not need to observe the entire session, younger students greatly benefit from having an adult or older teen available to help with technical issues if they come up, or to answer questions about the child's goals.
❓ What are your tutors’ qualifications?
First and foremost, our tutors are background checked to help ensure the safety of your child!
The experience and education background of our tutors will vary, though all tutors meet our minimum standards to ensure your child is receiving the help he or she needs. Our tutors are usually homeschooling parents who have or are walking the same journey you are, and are familiar with the unique needs of our homeschooled children. Our tutors’ bios are listed on our website so you can see their individual qualifications and get an idea of their style and personality.
You may request a specific tutor, or allow us to choose a tutor for you.
❓ Is there a registration fee?
We only charge a registration fee for those wanting weekly lessons without a 3-month minimum commitment. Those wanting weekly lessons and willing to commit to 3 months, or those purchasing packages, do not need to pay a registration fee!
❓ Do you offer a trial session so we can meet the tutor before committing to a package or weekly lessons?
Yes we do! You can register for a one-time 40-minute trial lesson to meet your teacher and feel confident before moving forward with a package of sessions or regular weekly sessions.
A one-time 40-minute trial lesson is $25. Limit one trial lesson per household per subject.
❓ Can I enroll my public school student in your tutoring program?
Yes, you can! However, keep in mind that our tutors specialize in helping homeschooling students, and are most familiar with homeschool curriculums. The method books and curriculum your public-schooled child uses are most likely different from what your tutor is familiar with. Though this should not be an issue when it comes to helping your child with their public-school assignments, it could be a challenge if your public-school curriculum differs greatly from how the subject is traditionally taught (which is pretty unlikely). If you are unsure, ask us!
❓ Is there any commitment period?
For 5-session and 8-session packages, you are committing to the number of sessions you purchased, and packages are non-refundable. 5-session packages expire 120 days after purchase, while 8-session packages expire 160 days after purchase.
For weekly sessions, you are receiving a deeply discounted rate because you are having sessions weekly and committing to one calendar month at a time.
When you sign up, you choose to pay a $30 registration fee, or pay for the first three months up front. If you pay the registration fee, you are committed to one calendar month at a time, and that’s it! If you pay for the first three months upfront, we waive the registration fee, and you are committing to these three months of lessons in order to receive your discounted rate. No refunds or credits are given if you choose to discontinue sessions prior to the end of the 3-month commitment.
